I just want to say that I cannot say enough good things about
www.ihostasp.com. I am new to using DNN and not a programmer or
technically strong when it comes to installations and things like that,
and all I had to do with them is ask them to deploy a 4.0.2 blank site
and it was done in 10 minutes. I could then log on and create the
website as if I was working on it on my desktop, which I had been doing
for several weeks. For whatever reasons, I was having trouble with the
environment, and my desktop system would have errors, etc. For the
novice, having a site up on a server where you can add your modules,
skins, etc., was worth everything. Their basic plan is very affordable
and meets my needs. I couldn't be more pleased with the service. From
signup to deployment it was less than an hour.

IHostAsp.net is fast
First of all these guys know how to host a DNN website so that it loads very quickly. I did some searching through the hosts listed in this forum, as well as through Google searches and came across www.IHostAsp.net. They have a test page that you can load to see what their load times are like: www.IHostDNN.net. When I loaded this page, I was happy with the speed (about 1-3 seconds load time first time, about 1 second load time after the site is cached). Also, their tech support team is great. They helped me setup a remote connection to my database so that I can make updated to my websites from a DNN instance running on my desktop. Also, using their system I was able to create muliptle websites, using subdomains, that pull from the same database but have different skins.
Finally, these guy's prices are extremely comeptitive with a site going for $8.95/mo to start up to a significantly discounted reseller program. If you haven't heard of reseller programs and you are interested in running more than 5 DNN websites, you should do a search on it. Or better yet, give the folks www.IHostASP.net a visit.

For clarification, the www.IHostASP.net reseller program brings hosting costs down to as low as $0.70/month per domain. And updated should be updates. Chris |

To start with I was happy with ihostasp - cheap, quick installation of DNN etc. But I have been a customer for less than 2 months and have had loss of service 3 times which is totally unacceptable, I wouldn't expect that in a year. I am left with sites off line for long periods of time. |

Hi clarityTeam, I am trying to setup my remote SQL 2005 Server connection but having difficulties with it. I send tickects to ihostasp.net support team, but receive answer only next morning, which is not good if you claim they have good customer support. Could you please provide detail info how to setup remote SQL 2005 connection to their SQL server?
Thank you, Adle

The Professional plan is ideal for web developers and DNN enthusiasts that need to setup multiple DNN master portals. This plan can host six master portals and up to a hundred and twenty virtual portals. We provide six Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005 databases with 48000MB of disk space and 30GB of bandwidth per month. This plan is the best offer you can find.
| P.S. Sorry this info is so late in the thread, I figured that would be better than starting a redundant thread. |

Lee,
If my memory serves me, you are hosting DNNCreative on ihost servers, no? Are you equally happy with their service and site performance?
Perhaps that would make a good module for a rookie like myself: How to Host a DNN Portal Built Locally...how to link up the SQL DB on the host server, remap the images/pics, etc that are mapped to local locations, etc.
I have been shopping for hosting, given that I can't get my site installed on GB, and ihostasp looks like the front runner thus far, so welcome your comments. |

I am still very satiesfied with Ihostasp.net. I have got more than good service. I've also got some good development and technical advice for free. You can get Dotnetnuke up and running in a few minutes time. We have experienced som network maintenance, but always got information about it beforehand. Carsten, Denmark |

My company signed up under a reseller plan and so far we've had mixed results. The setup and performance of the site is good. The control panel (Helm) is easy to use. We were really excited about this hosting provider until we got into maintaining our databases or even getting support.
The web based MS SQL server tool they have is abysmal. The only thing you can do from it is run SQL. We've not been able to connect remotely to our databases, nor is there any information available on how to. We've openned up numerous support tickets and so far (3 days later) we have had no responses whatsoever.
Another issue we're having is how to transfer an existing site to their server. We'd like to be able to restore a backup copy of our database to their server, but apparently this is not allowed. From seaching their forums, it appears that they won't do it for you either. (see: http://support.ihostasp.net/Custome...ticleid=22) We've tried to contact them about this, but they won't respond to this one either.
In short, the biggest problem we have with this provider is lack of support. If we can't get this resolved, then we'll take our business elsewhere and we'll just have to eat the one month's fee. No way we're putting our client sites here if this is going to be the norm. |

OK, addendum to the above rant. iHostASP has responded this afternoon (Monday) to my Friday request. Apparently, my request was entered as a non-emergency and therefore not dealt with outside of their normal office hours (Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm EST). They did in fact restore my database as requested, contrary to what was posted in their KBArticle so I’m still a little unclear as to what their policy is, but happy that they did restore it. I’ll see if I can get some further clarification on database restores.
I’m not sure how fast “normal” support is during office hours or how quickly they’ll turn around “emergency” request, but I’ll keep you posted. Support is looking a little better now.

premier2, it has been a few months since your above post. I was thinking about getting a resellers plan on ihostasp but wanted to get some more feedback from you before I start to move all my sites over to them. Have you been happy so far? I have a customer that just switched to them and they helped me restore a db from my old server and let me connect using enterprise manager. They have responded really quick to all my requests. I am very happy up to this point but wanted to get some feed back on site up time over a long peroid of time.
Thanks! |

Don't Do It. I just wrote a long dissertation of all my troubles with them and just now deleted it. You don't want to hear that. What you should hear is that I had big enough troubles to close the account and had more serious problems with the billing department after that. I'll also complain that their techs are slow to respond over a weekend or no response over a weekend. Hey. The Internet does not go home on the weekend and neither do my customers.
On the contrary, I have good things to say about 3Essentials.com. They are setting the standard in my book. |

I am trying hard to find good input on DNN hosting. It seems like a lot of good things about hosting providers from people who only have a few posts. It makes me wonder if people from those hosting providers are creating accounts just to brag about their service.
I am curious about 3Essentials now. I have seen great reviews, but also seen some reviews stating they are a scam.
What do you guys think. Sounds like datamark likes them. Do you still like them a couple weeks later?
Also what do those who are still on iHostASP think. How is there service/performance at the moment?
Thanks,

Morty,
When I posted that question I was unsure with who to go with. I have been hosting my own servers for 5 years so I know the difficulties of hosting sites.
I tried 3Essentials and IHost. Ihost had a rough patch for 3 days in the last 6 months but other than that I have been SOOOO impressed with them. Thier control panel is much easier to work than 3Essentials. This customer support on non urgent issues is about a day. If I send a request to get a database restore it happens in under 6 hours on the weekday. If I send one on Saturday they have a Sunday support unit that will have it restored Sunday evening.
When I move a site they go as far to edit your web.config file for you and setup the username and pass for the database. They go the extra mile.
To launch a new dnn site they have an auto installer for any version of DNN. You click on three buttons and it is installed.
I can't say enough good things about them!!
I even had a client that was trying to get two different sites moved over after trying a few different DNN hosting companies and he was blown away by the service I could offer after moving him to ihost.
Go with them. It is month to month and I am sure you will be happy for the price.
Later! |

Thanks jcosta.
I think I may go with iHostASP. They seem to have good prices. I appreciate your advice. I do like the fact that iHostASP is DNN specific. That really helps.
I have my own website hosted at my house on a virtual server (windows server 2003) and I love the ability to manage everything, but the bandwidth woudn't handle more sites and it wouldn't be anything I would want my customers to rely on. It is nice for testing things.
One last question. How does iHostASP do with Database management? Will I be able to do simple things like db backups, and restores?
Thanks again jcosta, I really appreciate the advice.

Morty,
They backup your database nightly to the db folder of your domain. So you have nightly .rar files that contain the SQL 2005 .bak files.
You can also hit the database using SQL Express Manager using the correct port.
If you need a restore just send them the .bak file and ask them to restore it through thier support portal and they will take care of it.
Good luck! |
