I'm coming from linux and xoops to DNN and Windows 2003.  I've installed DNN and have it working with a few modules.  Now, my problem is getting the system to send mail when a user registers.

On my windows server, I have installed IIS with ASP.NET and SMTP Service (not POP3).  When I look at the Domains in the SMTP I see my server name and domain listed.

What else do I need to do to the server to get mail up and running?

You'll want to visit the Host Settings page and check the configuration of the SMTP server. There is also a button there where you can test it.

I' ve done everything as it's explained in the video to configure the SMTP function from my host. I've even checked the test button and got the "EMail sent successfully" message but I didn't receive any Test-E-Mail...

Is there anything I forgot ?

Go to your event log and see if it threw an error when it tried to send the message.

Check your email address for your admin account.

I checked the email adress but it is correct.
I checked the event viewer but no entry appears...

what else can I do ?

for some reason the email delivery was only delayed ...
half an hour later I received a bunch of mails from dnn.
It seems to work.

If DotNetNuke reports that mail has been sent, that means that it was able to connect to the SMTP server and transfer the mail. After that, it's up to the SMTP server to actually send them. And, you must then receive them.

If you look at the mail headers of these messages, you should be able to tell the times that the messages were received and transmitted from all of the intermediate stages. That should help you understand what happened during that 30 minutes ...
