Thanks, Joe. I've been long-awaiting DNN 6.2 but don't usually carry out upgrades on the day they are released, I prefer to wait for a while and see if there are any major problems reported first. However, I have one DNN install, which is full of skins, containers and modules that I should have deleted long ago, that I was about to trash and use as a test site. So I just let rip and upgraded it thinking if it goes pearshaped, I can trash it anyway. Well, guess what? A perfect upgrade, my favourite DNN 5 skin still works and there seem to be no problems. Just have to find the time to play with it now and check out all the new features. |

I completely agree about upgrading, and that is even more so when the upgrade is a major one. 6.2 is a major release. Always test upgrades on copies of sites if possible, and always make backups before upgrading live sites. I've played with 6.2 beta versions and have been impressed. It's good to hear of your success story, too. Besides all of the hoopla surrounding 6.2, there is a beta release of Active Forums at codeplex.com. AF is the software that runs the forums here at DNNCreative. When released, AF will become the default forum software for DotNetNuke. Existing users of either AF or the DNN Forums module will have an upgrade path, too. |

I'm fairly new to DNN and not a very techy either. I recently bought Active Social to see if it can provide the functionality I'm looking for. Is DNN 6.2 taking its place or complementing it? Should I get my money back for Acive Social? Thanks.

DotNetNuke 6.2 has the functionality of Active Social integrated into the core. Additionally, Active Forums is transitioning to a free module. Depending on when you purchased, I think that you should ask for a refund. That's my opinion. Also, the tight integration of A.S. into DotNetNuke is a MUCH better product. But ... be aware that this is very new, and you might expect some instabilities or issues ... |

Thanks Joe, I will do that. After looking at AS, I’m not sure if the administrative control of member groups- visibility, layout and messaging/communication I am looking for is best achieved through social media (AS) functionality or if separate modules can do more. AS does not appear to be customizable enough and more member driven. Joe, can I get your thoughts? If so, in this forum or do you have a separate email or number? |

Joe, Perhaps you can answer this for me, I've yet to really find a good answer. Long term, I know the social aspects of 6.2 (and beyond) are going to be great. That said what can we do today with 6.2? I've played around and while I can make groups, and I see the journal, I'm not sure there (which is why I'm asking) what else we can do with the current incarnation of 6.2. Thanks, Doug |

You are correct that the social features are new, and developing. I've seen announcements from several module developers that they are beginning to use the Journal feature. I guess my real question is ... what would you like to do with the social features? In other words, how do you want to make your site "social"? Do you have examples of other sites with features that you would like to emulate? |
