I am confused between all these avatars and what I'm trying to do isn't working, so maybe I'm not understanding how it is designed to work? Our forum consists of two groups of people - Forum Advisers and Forum Participants. I want the Advisers to be able to post their own avatars (that show their photos) and I want the Participants to only be able to show a standard Role Avatar beside their posts (automatically assigned).

To accomplish this I set up a security role for the Advisers, and for the Participants I decided to use the "Registered Users" role - the default role for all who register. So, anyone who registers is by default a Registered User, and the Admin only has to bother with assigning the security role to Advisers (which are fewer in number). The problem I am running into is that the forum wants to show TWO avatars stacked when I have both "Enable User Avatar" and "Enable Profile Avatar" selected. Is this right??? And it seems that since ALL users get the Registered User status, that if I assign an image to that role, then even those who are Advisers have that image displaying beside their posts as well. It's frustrating...shouldn't their assigned role (adviser) take over so that this avatar will display instead of the Registered User avatar? Or do I have to set up another security role for the Forum Participant and assign the avatar to that role in order to accomplish what I'm after? I was just trying to save us the bother of having to assign all Registered Users to their roles.

My next question is how does the Pool Avatar work? The word "pool" leads me to believe that either there IS a default pool of avatars users can pick from, OR I can upload images for them to choose from. Is my assumption correct? I have scoured the web and cannot come up with any documentation for this. Help! Also, does anyone know what System avatars are and how they work? Thanks!!
