I can't seem to find a tutorial that completely answers this question: what do I need to do to transfer a DNN site between two commercial hosting service providers?

I'm not particularly teckie, so I need a wee bit of handholding through this (better too much info than too little). I have both plesk and remote desktop access to both servers if necessary?

Both servers have other installations on them that are not moving and must be kept intact).

Do I need to install a new sql database on the new server first?

Do I need to install a DNN site on the new server first?

Do I need to use the same usernames and passwords on the new installation as in the old one?

Which files exactly do I need to transfer (was thinking of using filezilla ftp but could use plesk file manager I guess)?

What else do I need to do (apart from update the DNS data from the URL)?

A good question but I would check with your new host first, sometimes they will transfer everything for you (for free or for a small charge).

Ah thanks, but unfortunately here in Asia my new host has no knowledge of DNN. It's my own server with all the necessary (I've got other DNN sites installed on it).

I just never tried to transfer from another host before, and would prefer not to go down the trial and error route...

Are you trying to move a portal that is part of a DotNetNuke installation, or are you trying to move an entire DotNetNuke installation?
