Your friend it correct. This is quite doable in DotNetNuke. However the site does have a very aggressive/cutting edge design. It's one that I like, though. Approaching this with DotNetNuke, it is important to break the site design down into its individual elements. Lets look at the first page. I see these elements. - There are four menus. One has a "mega menu" feature. The other are "more or less" standard, but with different styling. The one at the bottom of the red area might be a "DNNLinks" element.
- There are two flash movies. These are easily incorporated.
- The "fat footer" can be done with fairly standard HTML.
- That vertical line that connects to the "Find Here" link would be be done with some absolute positioning and use of the z-index. Similarly, the z-index would be needed on the mega menu.
- The categorized keyword search could be done with one of several modules. It would probably need its own database, depending.
Other elements can be done with Announcements type modules. For the "mega" menu approach, consider using DNN Garden's DDR Menu. Also, with Telerik's RAD Menu now included in DotNetNuke it might be a suitable choice. It's certainly got a ton of options. Getting the mega menu right will be a top feature of the site. I didn't look at other pages in detail, but there are similar features. And, the page designs are much less challenging than the front page. |

@Joe,
Can you **PLEASE** nudge Lee into doing a tutorial on creating Mega Menu's ?? Whether it's using DNNGarden or Telerik's.
I've done my homework with Lee's tutorials and i still don't get DNNGarden.
Mega Menu's are all the rage now -- they are soo hot. |

@Joe, are you getting enough support responses from DNNGarden to warrant pointing us in that direction? I see where you were asking about decoration issues but you never got a response, that was back in August.
Should we invest time in this menu if it really isn't being supported?
What do you think of:

?? Have you looked at it? |

Mark is a busy man, but he does respond. In fact, he asked me to send him a copy of my skin and -- within a day -- he returned a solution, updated DDR menu (I'm not sure that the modifications he made for me have made it to the release version) and absolutely gave me what I needed. FOR FREE!
As what I was working on (and am still working on) is a commercial project, we plan to send a donation his way.
Mark is a real gem! We should all send him donations if we use his FREE products!
I believe that the other to which you refer is Brandon Haynes' menu. I believe that he hasn't updated it for over a year, but I also notice that he has a new job le, so that's quite understandable. I hope to meet Brandon early next month at the Chicago Day of DotNetNuke.
And, as you mentioned in another post, there is the Telerik RAD Menu. I suspect that it is a quite viable choice, too.

Heard back from Telerik on using Mega Drop-down in DNN:
"Unfortunately, the Mega Drop-Down menu cannot be used in DNN since it uses templates and with the RadMenu DNN SkinObject you don't have control over template items. Please, accept our apologies for this limitation."
FYI,,,

Lee/Joe, what kind of template is it that Telerik is referring to that we can't do?
Did i miss that somewhere in your lesson plans? I don't recall it,,,(perhaps because it doesn't exist!). |

I don't actually know the answer, but I would assume that the megamenu version of the Telerik editor is provided by some functionality that is not exposed by the "wrapper" that makes it available to DotNetNuke.
I have been using Mark Allan's DDR Menu quite happily. I've using the Mega Menu version. I did run into a couple of issues, and Mark was kind enough to make some additions that helped me do what I needed. I do recommend his menu, and I recommend him!

Thanks Joe I should point out that I'm working on a ground-up rewrite of the mega-menu template that gives a lot more control over rendering, including the ability to inject your own markup like the images in the site mentioned above. As a side-effect, it'll also do tabs, standard flyouts or any combination you can dream up. |
