Hi all I just installed IE8. My local DNN site will not connect, returning the error: 'localhost" is not set up to establish a connection on port "World Wide Web service (HTTP)" with this computer" Any ideas about fixing this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -DL

Solved! The IE8 installer turns off a number of features in IIS and WWW Services. To fix, navigate from Control Panel->Programs and Feature->Turn Windows Features On or Off-> ISS

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with IE8 and localhost. Can you please post a screenshot or list of the IIS features you used? Thanks

Sorry to be late replying. I have not looked in this topic for some time.
The approach I suggest is to walk through Lee Sykes video on setting up IIS. Open IIS in IE8 and match the items checked in the video. In my case, the IE8 installer did not respect settings previously set in IE7.

No problem. My issue turned out to be a bit different. It's related to PageBlaster compression. I still haven't found a soultion but if I do I'll post it here in case anyone comes across this thread. Thanks again, Vinny Malanga www.imisoftwareinc.com

I am having the same problem using W2008 and IIS using both IE8 and Firefox when I try to start DNN configuration using
http://localhost.DotNetNuke
(V5). Have the changes referred to above been made in IIS or the browser that generates this error? Any other suggestions?

Hello,
the URL for navigating to your local DotNetNuke website is usually a slash than a dot:
http://localhost/dotnetnuke
Have you tried this?

http://localhost
/DotNetNuke/. Read about ISS in another posting. Had a look but what is ISS? Geoff

IIS = Internet Information Services
You need that to be installed, if you are just starting out setting up DNN on your local computer I would suggest you go to this link:
http://www.dnncreative.com/freetrial.html
This will give you a free sample of videos from DNN Creative, in that sample is the tutorials on how to install DNN to Vista, it shows how to setup + install all of the progs, IIS etc.
Ideally I recommend to use Virtual PC and install DNN within a virtual PC as it keeps it completely separate from your normal windows install and makes it much easier to transfer across work to other computers at a later date:

Hi,
Just to put a conclusion to the issue I was having. My trial installation of the Ifinity URL Master module was conflicting with PageBlaster compression. The resolution is to get a trial license key from ifinity (free) for demo purposes. Though you can use the trial version without the key it displays a trial message on various pages which is the source of the problem. This isn't an issue once you have a pruchased license. I had just upgraded to IE8 when I was demoing the Ifinity URL master and mistakenly attributed the problem to IE8. I have been using the ifinity friendly url module so I didn't think the url master module was the issue.
Here's the link to the Ifinity thread discussing the issue.
