I was glad to see you address this topic. When LiveId was first added to DNN, I tried to implement it at  AgingSafely.com and ended up with a disaster.  From what I can see from your article DNN's implementation of LiveId hasn't improved much.

I live in the heart of Microsoft land and many of my users have LiveId's for email or other MS tools and functions.

Since I haven't had a reason to get an OpenId, I assumed most of my users don't have one either. As a result I didn't spend too much time on that service.

I hope at OpenForce 2008 the DNN crew assured you that all of this and many other bugs that have lingered on thru DNN 4.* are all fixed in DNN 5.0.

I will be waiting until an official release on DNN 5.0 as it's pointless recording videos on rc buggy versions - but once something stable is released I will begin DNN 5 videos,

I was really hoping for a commitment to make the very next set if videos after the official 5.0 release to be about your experience upgrading a copy of your web site to DNN 5.0. 

Covering:

• What worked out of the box and what didn't
• Which modules that you use were compatible or had new versions at that time.
• Which modules that you couldn't use
• Etc.

Many of your subscribers might wait for you to be the pioneer in this area IF they new in advance that you would have a video out within 30 days of its release. Otherwise many of us will duplicate this effort except for all of the video work.

No I will be waiting till it's stable otherwise it doubles my workload for creating videos as when the bugs are fixed I will have to re-record them with the fixes. When I record a video I hope that it will last for quite a while before I have to re-do it so that I can keep creating new material rather than re-recording old material.

My advice: do not upgrade, watch the forums and for the bugs that other people come across. On a critical site I would wait until several point releases, especially with the major changes of DNN 5.

I usually to a upgrade on my localhost and test my application and DNN functionality that I depend on such as portal creation on each new release. This way I can report the bugs that effect me.  I do not upgrade my production server until DNN is several point release into a stable product.

My production server started at DNN 4.3.5 and was unable to upgrade until 4.5.3 due to bugs with portal creation. I was next able and willing to upgrade at 4.8.0 due to other issues.  Unfortunately stared making the numbers change in relationship to political events, such as OpenForce, rather than the size and scope of the code changes. This makes understanding the scope and risk of the upgrade more difficult. Also the forums don't really do a good job of segmenting the bugs in a release from the general chatter.  The fact that DNN hasn't fixed their forum module to send notification email out make them almost useless in my opinion.

I've been developing a new site using 4.9.0 and finding it quite stable.

yes I have a live site in 4.9.0 at it seems stable as well.
