Some Redirect Disaster:

 

I just set up an experiment in Google Analytics with the following pages:

Original:                          http://www.mudgeerabahilltons.com

Variation:                          http://www.mudgeerabahilltons.com/test01

Conversion:                   http://www.mudgeerabahilltons.com/test01/ContactUs/tabid/273/Default.aspx

 

As I started the test I found that I can’t get to “mudgeerabahilltons.com” !! It automatically redirect to some kind of alias:  (Actually, both original and variation pages redirects to the alias below.)

“mudgeerabahilltons.com/test01” is a newly created Child portal for this experiment.

 

I don’t know if this is in the Google Java Script I entered, or it some stuff up on my part.

 

But How do I get on to the page???

I’ve tried get into editing through the Portal list – but it redirects.

Can I get to this through the FTP client?

The re-directing to Alias is on the home page only.

I have removed the Google (Java Script) code off this site:

Now it does not redirect if I go to the home page via other page links.
If I put in the domain name in the browser it will redirect.

Hi Again

I did another test on the google analytics, this time very carefully and continuously testing so that the page links where working.

The sites this time:

www.connieolle.com/blog
www.connieolle.com/test02

All links was working with the Java script loaded, and I managed to get to the home page a couple of times after I started the test.

Suddenly it then started re-directing again on the home page – and I have recreated my problem.

Is someone else running Google analytics in DNN Parent / chilled portals.
(Since it’s a Google requirement that the sites shall have the same domain, this seems like the only option?
Terence from TMM World recommended Google – have you tested??

Some more testing:

 

I made 3 child portals and run a test with:

 

www.connieolle.com/orig

www.connieolle.com/blog

www.connieolle.com/test02

 

As soon as I started the Analytics experiment the “Orig” page was lost – or it was redirected back to “blog” page wherever I tried to enter it.

 

I also stopped the previous experiment (Using some of the sites I this one.) and immediately the redirect disappeared and I was able to access the “Original” site again.

 

Again – it would be interesting to find someone that have played with this stuff in Dot Net Nuke.

I use Google analytics on DotNetNuke, but I set it up to track the entire DotNetNuke installation rather than separate portals. However if you add the Google analytics code into a skin file it should work okay.

How are you currently adding the Google analytics code to the page?

I am testing the “Google Website Optimizer” – (Link above). The General Analytics is a bit different, just one JAVA script for all pages.

 

This system requires 3 individual pages under the same domain.

 

I get 2 Java scripts for Top and Bottom of the first page.

One Java script for the second page.

And finally a Java script for the third – so called conversion – page.

 

I just put the Google / Java code in a Text/Html Module, either an existing or I add a dedicated module for the code. The installation is tested and I get failure or approval before continuing. – So the code should been properly installed.

 

Using the “skin.html” (assuming that’s where you put the code Lee?) here means I need separate skin for the 3 pages.

 

I will do another test today, this time on three pages in the same portal.

ah yes, I was referring to web page analytics rather than the conversion tracking area. - Text / HTML modules should work - just make sure you add the code in 'Raw' mode into the Text / HTML module.

- Select Basic Text editor rather than rich text editor and then select the Raw radio button.

Yea, I do run the Analytics and that one works.

But it was the Blo… Google thing that completely blocked the “Original Page” in my ‘Conversion Maximizer’ trial.

I did to trials and as soon as I stopped the test I could access the “Original Page” again.

And thanks for the hint about “raw”, I didn’t know about that option until Craig mentioned it quite recently. Now I use it whenever I put in Code instead of text.

So, I now run a Google optimizer trial over three pages and it seem to be working, but it obviously have to be run over three pages in the same portal.

Still haven’t seen any result though, so if you want to give me some traffic you can go here. No real content on the pages, just a trial to see what data Google provides in the end.
