Hi Forum,
I watched the video
How to limit access to the admin menu
from Lesson 26.
After that I´ve created a new role with two users.
Then I outsource the module definition from the host to an new tab where this new role has read and write access.
I´ve looked in with the new role and I could see the module definition.
But I can´t upload a new module.
Has anybody an idea how I can give a non admin and non host the rights to upload a new module?
Is this possible?
Best regards,
Rene

Only a host can upload a new module.
Hosts and Admins can all previously uploaded modules to a page.
If you give someone else page edit rights, they should be able to add or delete modules.

Hi Joe,
thanks for the answer. Have you already tried it with the module definition or is this the theory?
In my case it works with other modules in my DNN installation but not with the module definition.
I went to the settings of the module definition and give the new role the view and edit rights, but it dosn´t work.
Had someone tried it already? Is it working like the video from lesson 26 said?
Best regards,
Rene

If you go to a module's settings page, uncheck the box to inherit from the page permissions, and then check the boxes for the roles that you wish to have view and edit rights.
It's not entirely clear what you mean when you say that it works with "other" modules but not with the module definition. Are you referring to the module definition page under that host menu? If so, then only the host or someone with host rights can see that page.
Perhaps if you explain which module you are working with, that might help.
DotNetNuke version 5, to be released in the next few months (we hope), will allow you to put administrative modules on non-administrative pages, and this will open up all sorts of possibilities.

Hi Joe,
there is no "Inherit View permissions from Page" in the settings of the module definition.
You are right with other modules, there is the checkbox for "Inherit View permissions from Page"
Maybe this is the case why it is inpossible at the moment.
Do you know this for sure that in DNN 5 you can put administrative modules on non-administrative pages?
So I have to wait a little bit longer.
Best regards,
Rene

Hi Joe,

I´m sorry for confusing you. I also put the Log Viewer out of the Admin menue. This is working fine, because the other user just look at the module.
In the case of the module definition, the other user should upload a new module.
And also the Log Viewer has no "Inherit View permissions from Page" in the settings.
Best regards,
Rene

Are you referring to the Module Definitions page that is under the Host menu?
