I suppose this question has been made before on these forums, but I couldn't find it. I need to make a site in 3 languages. Someone told me that I need a localizer, a hack and a couple of modules. But I don't know how to do this.

DotNetNuke's "static" language is localized. There are language packs available for many languages.
You greater problem is localizing the content. There are some modules that support multiple languages. If you look at places like Snowcovered you'll find them. Or Google them.
I can't give a recommendations because I haven't used any of these modules. If you do use one, please let us know how it works for you.

Thanks Joe. But I'm not sure if I explained myself properly. I'm not interested in translation of the contents. I can do that myself. What I don't know is how to create the 3 versions of the site, one for each language, that will open according to the language of the visitor's browser, or that they can switch to by clicking on those typical flag-links.

As I undertand things, the multilanguage modues don't translate. Instead the they allow you to insert multiple versions of content in different languages, and the display is based on the user's language choice.

Hi there,
Just picking up on this as I was searching for a solution to a similar problem.
I want to create a site with English and German language. I will mainly be using Text-HTML modules but also a couple of others such as Ventrian News Articles.
I was thinking to have two portals (one child one parent) with different domains (.eu and .co.uk) and literally create two sites side-by-side.
This may sound laborious but its a small website, 5-6 pages. However its a bit of a hack.
If there's a better way of doing this I'd be interested to know.
Thanks!
Andrew

There are multi-language "HTML" modules. Google for them.
You can also use DNNStuff's Aggregator module. You can put two modules into an Aggregator and one will be displayed for Language A and the other displayed for Language B.

I would also have a look at:
adequation-dotnetnuke.com
who provide
localization extensions
for free. I have not had chance to test it, but it looks good. Let us know what you think if you use it.
Thanks,

@Andy: You should definitely try our localization extensions. You will be able to implement your scenario using a single portal, which can greatly reduce your administrative work (not having 2 sets of users, separate administration, etc.). As for the 2 domains, I would recommend using only 1 domain and redirect the 2nd domain to this 1st "main" domain -- As of version 1.15, we do not support having a specific language by domain (such as english for the .eu domain and german for the .co.uk). We detect the preferred user language based on the browser's language.
@Lee: It is as good as it looks ;) Simple, effective, straightforward, free...
Best,
Etienne
