I've got to say that Engage: Publish is one wonderful module! I've been using this for about a week, and I've thoroughly pleased with it.
Let's deliver the bad news first. The Standard Edition, good for one portal, costs $295. An Profession Edition, good for installation on multiple portals across an enterprise is $495. IF you want the source code, there is an Enterprise Edition for $995.
Now ... what is is?
Engage: Publish is a document publishing system. It includes versioning and workflow for approval. Documents can be described by a host of meta-data (data about the document: author, version, publication dates, tags, categories and subcategories, comments, ratings, related content, etc.).
Think of documents or articles as the basic element of content on your system. You can also create a rich document management system.
All of the articles are stored in a single set of tables. When you place a Publish module on a page, you have access to all of the content, and your display options determine what is shown. Actual publishing can range from displaying a single article on a single page to showing a complex, categorized catalog of documents.
One of the coolest things you can do is use Publish as a replacement for every Text/HTML module on your site. If you do that, you automatically have added workflow, versioning and the rest of content management to your site. Now you can edit "Text/HTML" content, approve it when it is ready, schedule publication or just put it out there and, if you find a mistake or that you'd like to make a change, you can revert to the previous or any previous version with just a few clicks. You can also schedule publication for future dates, and your content will change automatically!
And, if that's not good enough, Chris Hammond and his team maintain great support forums and a Wiki that documents their product. They also seem to have an aggressive development schedule, with new features promised and delivered in a timely fashion.
Can you tell that I like this module?
The support Wiki for publish give details on a number of ways to use Publish. Oh, and I've probably not yet discovered most of the features of this module ...
