Portal child folders no longer visible

...after upgrading today to 4.3.3, none of my user accounts have file manager access...all they get is a blank folder (all of the controls on the page render ok, it's just as if they're looking at an empty drive). The Host account can see a folder in the tree named "Portal Root", but it's empty. help?
