I am new to DotNetNuke and I am attempting to install the latest version on a GoDaddy hosted account.

I've read the forum posting about installing onto a GoDaddy account and found it helped a great deal however, I can't seem to get beyond the connection string to the database without something being wrong.

I've made so many changes at this point I don't know what is right anymore.

Below is my latest attempt at changing the web.config file and adding the connection string to my database but, I continue to get an error as follows:

Invalid value for key 'attachdbfilename'.

Below is the part of the web.config file that I have changed to include the connection string.  I don't understand what is wrong with it...bigger still...I have no idea of where to go to find an answer.

You probably included some tags in your posting of the web.config. If you make sure that there are spaces before and after any < or > then it should post ok.

I would hope that the folks at godaddy could help with this. If not, maybe you could give Danica Patrick a phone call!

But, if you'll try posting that again, we can probably help, too.

Let me start by saying I've been a Godaddy hosting customer for several years and equally frustrated with the shortcomings and apparent unwillingness to assist paying customers. It's a remarkable business model ~which goes to show the resilience of the company you keep. Nevertheless, I have a great discovery that I felt compelled to share with regards to the Godaddy hosting sub-directory debacle. This also leads to an issue that I am sure several of you bright folks will be able to assist or point me to an existing article/tutorial Lee has published.

The details of the following and the source of my information can be found at the following link: http://help.godaddy.com/topic/173/article/4067#adddomain

I have implemented the contents of this Help Article and can attest to its success. The end result is to have 'myweb.com/dnn' point to a sub-folder '/dnn' without displaying it in the URL resulting in only 'mydomain.com'

Word-to-the-wise: Changing your domain name takes up to 24 hours to complete and potentially longer to propagate name servers.

(Again, the detailed steps are listed in the above link.)

Step 1: Remove web access to the root directory of your hosting domain (myweb.com)
Under the Domain Management settings, change the Primary Domain on Hosted Site to a non-real domain name: myweb-nonroot.com (for example)

***Take a 24 hour coffee break***

Step 2: Enter an alias for your new non-real domain name (myweb-nonroot.com) as the original domain name: myweb.com.
Enter the Domain Hosting Path of the sub-folder /dnn.

Once this change is effective you can navigate to myweb.com and it will resolve to the /dnn sub directory without presenting it in the URL. Yea - finally something I have tried and it appears to work great...with one minor issue.

My original site was originally initiated with the /dnn extension and my default portal is registered in my DotNetNuke installation as myweb.com/dnn and I have registered a portal alias of myweb.com.

Every link and menu still references the myweb.com/dnn path. Therefore, if you can guide me to how to change the default to myweb.com instead of myweb.com/dnn, I believe this is a workable solution.

If you want to change URLs in the Text / HTML module you could use SQL find and replace, this may help:

Thanks for the suggestion.

I am actually referencing the default portal sub-directory that was used when the site was initialized, /dnn.  Another example would be when selecting a page (on this site) in the links module.   All of the site pages are qualified as 'http://myweb.com/dnn/forum/default.aspx', for example.  Now that I have removed the .../dnn from my hosting URL reference, I would like to have dnn follow suit.

For replacing text in Text/HTML modules, Engage Software's free F3 module can't be beat. It's prettymuch wysiwyg and you can accept/reject changes individually.

Does anyone have any experience with hosting multiple domains on a single dnn portal @ Godaddy? I have never had success with multiple parent portals through Godaddy. I have attempted to utilize domain aliases and still nothing. Just curious if anyone has had success with this.

Brief update: I have solved all my hosting issues and it took all of 10 minutes! 

How you ask? 

I moved my hosting to PowerDNN and dropped GoDaddy like a bad habit.  I currently support half a dozen or so sites independently that I have setup @ GoDaddy and I will be moving them all so I only have to support a single portal and multiple sites.

 Me thinks this is going to save me lots of time!

Thanks everyone for your input - and for those of you who continue to use GoDaddy for DNN hosting... you can always take pleasure remembering that you can burn upwards of 150 calories a day banging your head against the wall.
