Hi, There is an existing module to convert a DNN site to a mobile site called mobiNuke. I need to however create this from scratch for our client and I don't have any idea as to where I should begin. This is what I have: 1. Pages of DNN content to convert to Mobile. 2. Mobile skin in css and html What I do know: 1. I don't want to duplicate pages in DNN to create the wap site if all the pages already exist. 2. I need to use WURFL to detect the mobile phone accessing our client's site. 3. I need to somehow tell the html modules I NEED to show in mobile, to show only if a mobile is accessing the site. 4. There's a great resource for Mobi at http://www.networksolutions.com/hel...-guide.pdf which I am going through now. What I don't know: 1. How to exclude certain sections on a page of content and only deliver the necessary useful information for the mobile version. 2. C# to write my own code behind files to do all the above. Have you seen the various apps created during the recent Hackathon in St. Louis? Those might give you some really good ideas for creating mobile apps with a DotNetNuke site.
If you haven't seen them, google "dotnetnuke hackathon" for details.

I have read through most of the Hackathon articles but it seems these mobile implementations were specifically for applications using DNN on high end phones such as Android or iPhone mobiles.

It seems nobody's really looked into a basic Mobile WAP website for DNN.

I have built mine and I am about 80% complete with it now. The problem I am experiencing is how to thin the pages out so that that are not so heavy to load. At this stage, a single initial page load is about 140kb! Much too large and way too expensive for most WAP browsing sites.

Can you please tell me how to remove the DNN resources such as all the JS files and other heavy resources which might not be needed at all in a WAP site?

Oh, I also need to add that I am not looking to buy mobiNuke. I need to build this myself for our client.

It all starts with the skin.  You will want to skin the site such that the skin doesn't use much in the way of javascript or jquery.  Use a menu that doesn't rely on javascript or jQuery.  Use modules that don't use those, either. Install Oliver Hine's "optimized" skin objects that reduce scripts.  Don't include the control panel in your skin as you aren't likely to be trying to administer the site from a phone.

I have a simple test page on at site that has a couple of small Text/HTML modules.  It's size is 265 KB (593 KB uncompressed).  Most of that is scripts.

Yes, this is what I have done; stripped everything out of the skin to its absolute bare bones and still I am not getting the results I need. 265kb is a massive reduction but it is still very big for a WAP site which the recommended is 20kb (which I think would only be possible if you were building a static Mobile site not running off a CMS system like DNN).

As you can see, the only thing I have added is the CSS for the layout of the site.

I will try Oliver Hine's "optimized" skin objects now but I think this is a topic worthy of delving further into because besides mobiNuke, nobody else has really done something about this which is a shame because even Joomla have an AWESOME free mobile plugin for their CMS.

Most of that is jquery, so you still could get rid of that.

You might want to look at Pageblaster (snapsis.com) and see if that can filter out some files.

You might also want to see what happens if you replace jquery files on your site with empty ones.

If you aren't using them on your page, the optimized skin objects aren't going to help.

Can I ask. Is there a way to remove jQuery from DNN so that I can add it in manually rather than have the CMS plug it in for me?

It seems that jQuery is automatically plugged in if I go to Host -> Advanced Settings -> jQuery Settings.

Can I delete the pre-installed jQuery files and add them myself? That way, I can control which template the jQuery files will be plugged into
