The Portal Alias Name You Specified Already Exists. Please Choose A Different Portal Alias.

That is the error I keep getting when I try to create a new parent portal.  For some reason and probably after I upgraded from 4.6.2 to 4.7, I am getting this error and can not create any more portal on my DNN installation.

I have 7 portals running on this DNN installation.  Most are static portals so they dont require much customization or resources.  However, I can not create any more now.

I have checked the database table and I have verified that everything in the New Portal form is unique (i.e. portal alias, admin account, etc...)

what could possibly be causing this?  and what can I do?

That is  strange, I have not come across that error before.  Can you create a child portal?  Can you add an additional portal alias to an already existing portal?  This could be worth a question in the main DotNetNuke forums as you may have discovered a bug, thanks,

I can create child portals and can add portal alias to existing portals. I just can not add any more parent portals. It is a wierd problem. I have posted in DNN main forums and no one has responded.

After adding a child portal, add a portal alias to it to convert it into a parent portal - does this work?

We found the problem here is actually a documented bug in DNN 4.7.0 which will be resolved in next version:

To fix edit this file:
admin\Portal\signup.ascx.vb

On line 261 replace:
Dim PortalAlias As PortalAliasInfo = PortalSettings.GetPortalAliasInfo(strPortalAlias)

With:
Dim PortalAlias As PortalAliasInfo = PortalSettings.GetPortalAliasLookup(strPortalAlias.ToLower)

Perfect.  Thanks Rob.  That did fix my issue.  I actually went crazy trying to solve that one and just gave up.  Nice to have it fixed though.
