Hello,

I have installed DotNetNuke and can open it from within Visual Web Designer, in which case it opens at an address such as http://localhost:4210/bwbl/Default.aspx

However, if I try to open it directly at localhost I get the following error

Server Application Unavailable

The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable.  Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.

If I add an index.htm file to the application folder it will open that, so it is somehow related to ASP.

Does anyone have any thought on the cause please.

OK, I've got things working better now. Not sure why though as I lost track while following all the suggestions floating around on the web.

* I uninstalled and reinstalled .NET 2.0
* I recreated the virtual directory in IIS that points to my dnn site install folder.
* I created a user and attached it to the database with ASP privileges as per the 'transfering localhost to live tutorial" (#22) then ammended the connection string in the web.config file to suit.

Now the site opens at localhost/bwbl, where bwbl is the site's directory. (This seems odd since in IIS I have both the default web site node and the virtual directory node pointing directly at this folder. But hopefully it won't cause any problems in future.)
